What is a Bad Bot [robot]?
Bad bots are automated programs running malicious attacks on websites, web apps, mobile apps, and databases. They perform a range of attacks from typical fraud to a complete system crash of websites and apps, including mobile apps.
You may be curious as to why a luxury lifestyle website like Luxe-Edit.com is addressing the issue of bad bots and malicious individuals on the internet. Let me provide an explanation. Despite the implementation of several layers of security to safeguard my website, it has unfortunately fallen victim to the relentless bombardment of harmful ‘bad bots’. These bots specifically target my website, repeatedly clicking on my outbound affiliate links, resulting in severe damage to my business, brand, and reputation. As the publisher and owner of the website, I bear the responsibility for these actions, even though I am the innocent party and not the wrongdoer. Consequently, I am continuously assessing and reassessing the security measures in place at Luxe-Edit.com in order to confront the presence of nefarious bots and malicious actors. This ongoing battle is both time-consuming and financially burdensome. As an affiliate marketer, my revenue hinges upon visitors clicking on my links and engaging with the affiliated brands, whether it be making a purchase or booking travel. Only when the links are functioning correctly and you, as valued visitors to the website, choose to complete a transaction, can I generate affiliate revenue (commissions or flat-fee bounties).
Unfortunately, one of the third-party companies responsible for running and managing affiliate marketing programs has chosen to view me as the antagonist rather than the victim I am and according to this network, I am a “VIP Publisher” I feel for the ‘non-VIPs’ since they’re treating me horribly. They have shown no interest in engaging in constructive discussions, or any discussion at all, to help resolve these issues. From my perspective, this represents a clear example of unethical business practices. With decades of business experience under my belt, I can confidently differentiate between good and bad business. It’s essential to acknowledge that all websites are constantly targeted by hackers and malicious individuals who possess coding skills that enable them to deliberately cause harm. These individuals derive a sick and twisted satisfaction from their actions. Consequently, the aforementioned third-party company has notified me that my publisher account is currently under review due to potentially suspicious traffic (generated by the clicks of these malicious bad bots). As a result, my affiliations with numerous marketing programs are being deactivated, rendering a significant number of affiliate links on my website non-functional. If you come across a link that does not redirect you to the intended destination, please accept my sincere apologies. I am presently engaged in the arduous and time-consuming task of identifying and removing or updating all deactivated links.
I take great pride in curating and crafting captivating content for Luxe-Edit.com, and I hold immense gratitude for the remarkable individuals who faithfully visit the website each day. Rest assured, the current issue with these malicious bots is strictly confined behind the scenes and poses no threat to the safety of my front-facing website or its visitors. Feel secure in continuing to frequent the site, knowing that your trust in its integrity is well-placed. Stay safe and be well!
MJR,
